Now Enrolling Summer School 2024
Posted on 04/04/2024
Enrollment is now open for 2024 Summer School opportunities in Joplin Schools for any student entering kindergarten through 12th grades. Enrollment will be online, and can be accessed at JoplinSchools.org or through an existing PowerSchool ParentPortal account.

Elementary Summer School classes will be held this year at Cecil Floyd Elementary (for students in Cecil Floyd, Eastmorland or Soaring Heights zones), Irving Elementary (for students in Irving, Stapleton or Kelsey Norman zones), and Dover Hill Elementary (for students in Dover Hill, Jefferson, Royal Heights or McKinley zones). Middle school classes will be held at South Middle School. This year’s Summer School dates are May 29 through June 27.

Elementary and Middle School students will participate in several field trip opportunities during the summer session. Elementary students will select “summer camp” style electives offered each day while also being exposed to core subjects as a way to supplement or boost learning from the regular academic year.

District Summer School director Katy Booher noted that planning efforts have focused on addressing the needs of any summer student, no matter their reason for attending.

“We have highly engaging learning experiences for students looking for opportunities to go deeper with their learning,” said Booher. “We’ll also offer supplemental reading services for students who need additional support over the summer, experiential learning to help students develop problem solving skills, and several traditional learning experiences to sharpen academic skills. We have something to offer every Eagle!”

At Joplin High School, incoming 9th-12th graders can enroll in Online Health, Online Personal Finance, Summer Weights/PE, Credit Recovery, Musical Theatre, and Freshmen Transitions.

Middle School students who sign up to take Summer Weights/PE can do so as a stand-alone course or as part of their enrollment in the full middle school summer program.

“For our JHS Eagles, we offer credit and non-credit courses to meet a variety of student needs,” said Booher. “Students can complete coursework over the summer to allow for more flexibility in their schedules during the school year. Many students who participate in extracurricular activities during the school year choose to take advantage of summer credit coursework.”

Students who do not attend Joplin Schools during the regular school year are invited to enroll and participate free of charge. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided to all participants. Limited transportation services will be available to Joplin Schools students.

More information is available by contacting Joplin Schools at 417-625-5200. Instructions for enrollment can be found here. Enrollments will be accepted until May 29. Students who enroll in summer school will receive more information about their specific summer program in May.
